Dr Alex Pappachen James, (Lab Director) [apj@ieee.org]

Dr James works on brain-inspired circuits, algorithms and systems, and has a PhD (2 years) from Griffith School of Engineering, Griffith University.  He is currently an Associate Professor in Electronics Engineering and leads the Bioinspired Microelectronics Systems Lab at Nazarbayev University.  He is actively engaged in research commercialisation. He has experience of managing industry projects in board design and pattern recognition circuits, data and business analytics consulting for IT and semiconductor industry. Dr Amin Zollanvari, (Lab co-Director) [amin.zollanvari@nu.edu.kz]

Dr. Zollanvari received both B.S. and M.S. degrees in electrical engineering from Shiraz University, Iran, (1999 and 2003) and his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University, College Station, in 2010. He held a postdoctoral position in Harvard Medical School and Brigham and Women’s Hospital (2010-2012) and worked as an Assistant Research Scientist in the Department of Statistics at Texas A&M University (2012-2014). He is currently an assistant professor of electrical engineering at Nazarbayev University. He has authored more 40 peer-reviewed articles and has served as the reviewer for 10+ international prestigious journals and conferences including IEEE TSP, IEEE TBE, PLos One, BMC Bioinformatics, Pattern Recognition Letters, and Signal Processing. He has mentored several students some of whom have won awards in national programs such as Intel Science Talent Search program and Siemens STEM competition.
